Legal Research and Advocacy: Individuals with legal training with ability to do legal and non legal research on special education issues and other disability issues of priority to our protection and advocacy programs. We will attempt to match a volunteer's skills with appropriate service area.

Development of Rights Information for Older People: Individuals with legal trainig will assist Colorado's Legal Services Developer for the Elderly in updating and drafting Here's Help rights information for older people. Example topics include advanced directives, developing a nursing home care plan, contracts in assisted living, medical durable powers of attorney and simple wills.

Administrative/Office Assistant: Volunteers will help with office duties such as processing the daily incoming and outgoing mail, processing publication orders, entering information into our database system, and other general office duties.

State Ombudsman Program: The State Ombudsman Program is an advocate for residents who live in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Volunteers will support efforts to inform residents and family members about how to select a facility and how to express their concerns about the health and safety of a resident. We are looking for volunteers to support that effort.

There will be opportunity to perform administrative functions, such as updating mailing lists, mailing out completed health department surveys to the appropriate local Area Agency on Aging, and assembly of Residents Rights Educational Bingo Games. In addition, there may be special projects.

Training Assistant: The Legal Center provides training statewide to over 2,100 people and distributes self-help information to over 2,200 people each year. We need volunteer assistance in local communities to distribute information about upcoming training and to assist at the training event with registration and reception of participants.

Voting Protection and Advocacy: Volunteers will work with the Coordinator of the Voting Protection and Advocacy Program, a non-partisan program implemented by the Help America Vote Act. Volunteers will assist in distributing information in their community about how to register to vote, how to cast a vote and how to access polling places. Volunteers need not be of voting age to assist with these activities.
